Without the big long article:1) Queue2) Complete Quest3) Die4) Repeat.do a few levels of Renown a day and you'll get there. You don't *NEED* to get it on Day 1 of the event, just before Day 60. 1 level of renown a day and you're good.
I got to level 27 or 28, and now I'm just going to coast. One renown a day until 40 unless something big changes. I hate getting ganked at level 1, but I'm not completely against getting hunted down after I've had time to finish the quest. If there was, say, a 90 second window after you land where you can't be harmed by other players, I think that would be fine. Also, maybe put people on the mini map after they've killed 10 other players in PVP. Make it a real bloodsport for the last handful of players.
Plunderstorm = Second-Hand Discounted Half-Assed Fortnite Mod
AKA: how to play like an actual pirate (avoid unnecessary fights, take everything that isn't bolted down, and if you live long enough to get the bolt cutters and go after everything that IS bolted down, do so).
Also, @#$% renown, the worst thing they added in the game by far and they just went full %^&*!@ with Soridormi, Archives, Cobalt and Niffen. They really want us to spend 6 months paying for a sub just to level up some damn factions that don't even give rewards, but ask you to also farm their idiotic currencies which takes even longer. I hope whoever is in charge of this game mechanic to drink polonium-spiked tea.
The event still sucks. They should've either not made it timed, or not put in things that are used in regular wow. All this will do is inflate their numbers and they'll point and say "look see, everyone wanted to play this, we should do more" while not factoring all the fomo players that just want their items. They do this all the time with things. They said everyone enjoyed the Maw and it was so popular, yes because you tied items to it @#$%^&*es, no one enjoyed that content. The same thing will happen here.
Poorly worded titles aside, one thing I'll bring up is this feeling PvE are entitled?To achieve the highest results in PvE, you have to organise over two dozen people to Raid some of the most dastardly devised encounters, multiple times, to perchance receive a new upgrade item or transmog.Lets not even discuss the meta achievements either.Similar can be said for the rating achievements in PvP - with some gnarly transmog rewards and rides there also require specific skills and huge battleground encounters. Multiple times.Calling PvE 'entitled' is a reach, as much as calling PvP players 'griefers'.The solipsism on display is wild. If someone doesn't enjoy a particular play style, they're a Bad Player (tm) aka 'scaredey cat'.The whole issue could be resolved with a PvE mode against the island inhabitants and a PvP/flagged mode, the latter giving quicker and higher rate to level for rewards. Truly "for everyone".But no, what we have is Blizzard mixing oil and water and thinking it won't separate, or make a mess. I had hoped for an addition to retail wow and not something separate. (Edit) Our retail PCs in PvE lost out on an interesting encounter zone and PvP PCs lost out on an interesting new battleground.
After three days I learned that attack is the best defensive. If I have some useful abilities I approach others. Sometimes I just watch what the other does, if he attacks me I will also attack. Its better then get shot in the back while fighting npcs. Running away is often losing to range abilities. If I do decent damage or have good abilities, it scares them of and I can go on gathering. If I get lucky I win and can collect their stuff. And I love Slicing Winds. Most fun ability. I wish my Outlaw had it. Took me a while to notice that its chargeable and dashing you even further. Best mobility spell. Imo Blizz can delete every other button bloat ability and just give me Slicing Winds for my Outlaw.And the bush is imba. You can even walk as bush and collect gold while others are still fighting. Made it on 2nd place so.
I Agree with the "you get 90s of set up time"After the 90s the storm mechanic becomes active, you get a warning, "Looks like a Storm is comin, its every swabbie for themselves out there! GET OUT THERE AND PLUNDER!"
What worked for me reach max renown already is memorize the names and hunt down if I spot the crybabies on the prematch "lobby" complaining on /s chat, they usually dont know how to play and only carry bad skills they dont know how to properly use and often have a lot of plunder on them, end almost every match with about 1000 plunder in about 5-10 mins.
I noticed this when I went to look up Plunderstorm on youtube as well... there are an overwhelming amount of videos/info focused not on playing/how to play the game but rather how to most effectively farm renown. E.g. "get the rewards quickest" type content. Its a really weird experience when you are searching for info on how to win or improve at the game and the majority of what shows up is content telling you how to farm faster.
Great article! Love the unique tone and point of view. :)
Thank you for the guide.
I hate wow pvp, but this event is fun. This is nothing like actual wow pvp, there's like a dozen abilities and in a few games you will have had every one and know what they do. It's not like arena where you need to know what every class does.
Probably should have pointed out the large plunder gain for your first quest of the day. Means that you can get a level of renown in like 20 minutes.If this event lasts 6 weeks like was claimed, that's 42 days. So just playing 4 matches a day should get you 1 renown every day, and you get to renown 40 near the end of the event with minimal time investment.
