Found some birds at 62.50, 47.29 that spawned one. Typically they're up on rocks.

This little guy seems like a fairly rare spawn where the Proto Avian critters or Proto Avian Fledgling battle pets spawn. I tried forcing a spawn by going to the Genesis Vestibule (where there aren't any enemies btw) at approximately 30, 54. You can kill the critters and battle pets to get the Scarlet Proto Avian to spawn instead. The critters and fledglings spawn very quickly here, but it still took me around 30 minutes before a Scarlet Proto Avian showed up.

Edit: Now that they've fixed it to where you can't AOE/kill battle pets outside of battles, you can battle the Proto Avian Fledglings that spawn and just kill the main battle pet (you don't have to kill the backline pets) then flee to get new battle pets to spawn. The replies here have good strats!

Found one flying around the stone at exactly 45,73. As others said, likely rare spawn for the much more common Fledgling version.

I am so bummed... I have been trying to catch one of these by farming pets non-stop. The initial info on warcraftpets said they only appear as secondary... but it looks like that has been removed now that I checked, because I found it as a primary. Sadly, I have become so auto-pilot I did not recognize that it was a scarlet in the primary slot (checked secondary slots) until after I killed it. Booooo!

This is a miserable camp, even as pet camping goes. Not so much waiting for the rare spawn, since this is something that I've done (and I imagine most reading this) have done a bunch of times. The issue, or rather what makes it annoying, is the stun of the Avians that you have to get through to get the rare to spawn. My suggestion is that you use a critter pet as your primary as you clear out the placeholders for this reason.

Also on that note, if you're not leveling other pets or trying to capture any of the front/back-line other pets, just a reminder that you only need to defeat the first pet to get the spawn to reset, then concede. It speeds things up.

For location, the Genesis Vestibule is great. There are about 4 spawns of Avians and I did eventually get one of them to spawn the Scarlet. For me, this was about 2 hours of fighting each of the spawns.

Found one at 44, 31 when I was heading to do the "Researching the Solution" world quest on my alt, wasn't even spamming my /target macro for him!

Okay. The first time, I thought it is just me being crazy. But then it happened again.

On the minimap, I saw the green paw and the mouseover indicated, finally, Scarlet Proto Avian. After approaching, I stood before a Proto Avian Fledgling. I was irritated. Did I mouseover over something else? What? There wasn't anything.

But then (I also farmed the Vestibule) I saw a Scarlet Proto Avian, but right at the moment I rightclicked, I witnessed the change: The Scarlet Proto Avian despawned while a Proto Avian Fledgling spawned in its place.

What the ....?

I had no idea this was a thing. I was waiting for Xyrath to spawn yesterday and absentmindedly exploded a critter i saw around. While waiting for xyrath again today I attempted to do the same thing and found that I couldnt kill the critter which caught my attention. I quickly battled it and captured it only to find out its apparently fairly difficult to get. Well... while continuing to wait for Xyrath to spawn a second one spawned in the exact same spot in less than 5 minutes. Dont know if it means anything but my coords were:

/way 63.85, 49.52

If a 3rd one shows up while I'm waiting I'll update this.

Found one at 40:73 which is not shown as a spawn point on the map above, odd. I thought I had Grumpy up but had my highest hitting one that of course one shot it... Think I searched for about 2 hours though while looking for the other pets in the same area. The marathon continues T.T

I found mine at the 30,54 back at the starting area. I was so excited when I saw the pet than to see that he did not morph into one of the other versions. But my luck ran out...

Whatever you do, don't bring out your best team - I pulled out my Fragments, thinking this was going to be a serious fight, and I still used my weakest hit to knock the health down. He went down with my very first hit. I finished out the match with the other two pets. I'll keep checking to see if he respawns here.

Hint, folks: If you're determined to capture a blue quality one, you're in for a looooong grind. Capture any quality one you can get, then upgrade it to rare quality. You'll save yourself hours of time and effort.

First, I started farming this pet. I kept looking in the genesis zone. There are 4 proto-avian pets there that cycle. As soon as you kill one, another pops up, but almost always as a regular, boring run of the mill proto avian battle pet. No problem, I would just run in there every time I was in the zone, and at least use this to level up some pets. Eventually, I found one scarlet pet, so I was happy...

Then, a few weeks later, I happened to see one just on the side of a road. (Not road kill.) Won it, though as I recall, not a rare. Such is life, and I gave up at that point as not worth my time chasing blue mirages. Then a few days later, I was again in ZM, doing a world quest. At 64,46, chasing Rana around, I saw another. I announced it to ZM, that here was a pet worth chasing after, as they were pretty rare. NOBODY wanted it. So what the heck, using my pet farming team, I scooped it up. In fact, this one was rare.

Anyway, the moral is, I wasted a few hours chasing the first one, when all I had to do was watch my surroundings more carefully, and there were two more to be found quite easily.

After spending 3 days in Genesis Vestibule and missing out on one spawn because my team was not ready for capturing, i decided to look through some more comments and made my way over to 64.50 ( just north of Pilgrim's Grace ) to check the area there.

The Proto Avian Fledgling there are killable, so i made a macro using: /tar proto avian , and started killing the 4 or 5 i could find.
On my 3rd round of killing my Scarlet Proto Avian was sitting on a rock looking at me like "what took you so long!".
Two minutes later the pretty bird was in the cage ready to go home with me and we live happily ever after.

I found that this way was a lot easier than killing the first pet in the battles against the Proto Avian Fledgling in Genesis Vestibule, but i could have been very very lucky. Give it a try though :)

Around 64, 50 there are 3 spawn spots, usually you'll find Proto Avian Fledgling critters
Killed them for 3 hours, found a Scarlet

Killing critters and waiting spawn lead to nothing
So wanted to set up 2 characters on my realm wm On other off
And same on a Rp realm. got to the 3. character and one waited for me on the eastern spawns

The distinctive red coloration of scarlet proto avians makes it difficult for them to hide from predators, which ironically means they're very hard to find.
